Decent gate, but use your own screws

The gate is solid, and it was fairly easy to install. My 1-year-old daughter hates it with the burning fury of a thousand suns, so it seems to be doing its job well. It also looks great and blends right into the end of our hallway.
However, the screws that come with it are abysmal. The recess on the head of each screw is too shallow to properly seat your screwdriver, so you'll end up stripping the screw almost instantly. It doesn't help that the metal is soft as a sponge.
Overall, it's a good gate. Just be sure you have your own screws on hand to mount it to the wall. You'll need them.

Gate itself is sturdy, hinges could be improved & customer service stinks.

The gate itself is strong metal and feels secure, and up until recently I would have given it 5 stars. However, the mounting brackets are all plastic and the bottom bracket snapped (after approx 7 months).
It has a 1 year warranty, so I immediately emailed customer support explaining that it had broken and asked them to send me replacement parts asap since the gate was partially sitting on the floor. Being a Friday, I did not expect a response until early the next week, but was pleasantly surprised to receive a response about 3 hours later. The rep asked me to send pictures of my gate, of the broken pieces (???), and my receipt/proof of purchase.
I promptly complied within 15 minutes and asked that she please get the parts out asap because the gate was located in a central location in my ranch-style home. You cannot go anywhere in my house without passing by the staircase (and therefore, the gate). As a temporary fix, we had the bottom of the gate tied to keep it off the ground and keep the gate shut to prevent my little ones from falling down the stairs.
No response.
After several days I sent a follow up reiterating the need for the parts because of the safety hazard the broken gate posed, once again including my mailing address and necessary information.
No response.
10 DAYS LATER: "Sorry for the delay. Please confirm your address and I will get these parts to ship out tomorrow." - I already supplied my address information 2x now, but did so again. No response, no parts.
2.5 weeks later I finally have just received the parts. I checked the shipping label and no, she did not 'ship out tomorrow' as she said she would.
As a mother of 5 and a full time job, I had more pressing things that kept me from continually harassing KidCo about the replacement pieces to get them sooner....but honestly, I shouldn't have to! It should not have taken them two weeks to drop 3 pieces of plastic in a mailbox, either. Nice gate, but cheap brackets and crappy followup service.

Mom (installed) and approved!

I'll start with the "short" of it...for the price and quality I would definitely recommend this gate!
Now for my summary of installation:
After reading the reviews of tips to use when installing the gate, I decided that I would try to do it on my own. The one hitch that I ran into was the fact that there was no stud in the wall were I had to place the hinge hanger in order for it to line up with the only spot to put the lock side of the gate on the other side of my stairwell. So, I use a 1x4 sanded and painted white to match the trim in our home. I attached the board to the stud in the wall (It was about 1 inch over from where I wanted to place the hinge.) and then hung the hinge on the board. This made me feel confident that the screws would not be pulling out of the dry wall regardless of if I used anchors or not. I considered using dry wall anchors, but felt with the amount of use the gate was going to get that it would probably eventually pull away from the wall. I did proceed to use the included wall mounting pattern, but would check each step by holding the gate in place before placing the screws. I also did drill pilot holes for the included screws and was very careful to put enough pressure on the screws to keep them from stripping. They are light-weight, but definitely useable if you drill pilot holes. Finally, I used my level and some patience to remove and replace the gate several times while adjusting the 4 hanging bolts to achieve a level and well seated gate.
For the quality of the product:
The gate itself seems very sturdy. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the gate. It seems to be very strong, yet not too heavy. The bottom hinge hanger is plastic and seems to the the only questionable part as far as quality goes. I know they chose to use plastic because it will not make as much noise as the gate rotates on the plastic "hinge," but it would be better if it were plastic coated metal like the top hinge part of the gate. Now that I've seen the quality of the gate and have figured out how to install it properly I'm going to order two more for our other stair well.
